First Visit

What to Expect at Your First Acupuncture Appointment

Your first visit at TCMA Acupuncture is conversational, thorough, and personalized. Here's what to expect.

Before you arrive

  • Eat a light meal — avoid coming on an empty stomach or immediately after a heavy meal.
  • Wear comfortable clothing — loose sleeves and pant legs help depending on the treatment area.
  • Bring relevant medical information — any recent test results, medication lists, or health notes you'd like to share.
  • Plan for 60–90 minutes — your first session includes consultation and treatment.

The consultation

Your first visit begins with a conversation. Connie will review your health history, listen to what brings you in, and ask about your goals. This is a key part of Traditional Chinese Medicine — understanding your unique pattern and constitution.

She may also check your pulse and look at your tongue, which are common TCM assessment methods that help guide treatment.

The treatment

After the consultation, Connie will recommend a personalized treatment plan. For acupuncture, fine sterile needles are gently placed at specific points and typically retained for 15–30 minutes. Many people find the experience relaxing.

Depending on your needs, additional modalities such as cupping, moxibustion, or herbal recommendations may be discussed.

After your visit

Connie will discuss any follow-up recommendations and a suggested treatment plan. Most people leave feeling calm and relaxed. Some notice immediate effects, while others experience gradual improvement over several sessions.

Important notes

  • By appointment only — all visits must be booked in advance.
  • If you need to reschedule, please contact the clinic as soon as possible.
  • If you have a specific health condition or concern, mention it when booking so Connie can prepare.
